COVID-19 Store Capacity Tracker

Best Overall Hackathon Winner

My team and I had the honor of being named Overall Winner at the Target DLS Hackathon. We conceptualized and designed an innovative mobile app to help shoppers navigate social distancing needs during the pandemic.

What did we build?

Given COVID-19's impact on store capacity limits, consumers often face frustrating wait times and uncertainty around which locations may be crowded. Our app directly tackles these pain points with features to filter nearby Target stores by real-time occupancy levels, curbside pickup options, and availability of high-demand products.

The centerpiece is an interactive occupancy heatmap providing up-to-date entry wait estimates and the ability to navigate directly to less congested locations. We even reimagined the contactless pickup experience with a more seamless, end-to-end system design.

How did we build it?

To rapidly bring our ideas to life, we leveraged collaborative tools like Figma for prototyping intuitive user flows andApp-architecting potential tech stacks. Our process involved whiteboarding and iterating based on feedback.

Though time was limited, brainstorming and executing on human-centered solutions to real business challenges was incredibly rewarding. I was blown away by the creativity and technical excellence of competitors.

Winning overall was the ultimate validation of our team's hard work, but the main takeaway was experiencing Target's forward-thinking culture firsthand. I walked away even more excited about opportunities at the intersection of design and engineering to drive meaningful impact. A huge thank you to Target for hosting such an enriching event!
